Failure
After installing the DCA and Cloud Connector on the computer, the NDD - Printer Monitor USB service is not immediately available on the NDD Orbix portal for configuration.
Although the agent installation was completed successfully, the service has not yet been registered on the enable services screen or the service configuration screen.
Cause
Service registration depends on communication between the computer and the NDD Orbix portal.
After installation, the DCA and Cloud Connector must:
-
establish communication with the portal;
-
receive the configurations;
-
process the enabled services;
-
register the NDD - Printer Monitor USB service.
This process may be queued in the portal’s queues and, for this reason, does not have a fixed completion time.
A delay in service registration, by itself, does not indicate a failure in the agent installation.
Related technical context:
-
DCA and Cloud Connector must be installed, active, and configured to start automatically.
-
The computer must be able to communicate with the NDD Orbix portal.
-
Processing time may vary depending on the network, system level, and processing queues.
-
After the service is registered on the portal, the discovery configuration must be performed manually. Printer discovery does not start automatically simply because the service has been registered on the portal.
Solution
-
On the computer where the DCA and Cloud Connector was installed, open Windows Services
-
Locate the NDD - DCA and Cloud Connector service
-
Confirm that the service is Running and that the startup type is set to Automatic
-
Verify the environment prerequisites, as instructed at Prerequisites for installing the DCA and Cloud Connector agent:
-
network communication with the NDD Orbix portal;
-
required ports open;
-
administrative permissions used during installation;
-
minimum available hardware resources;
-
no blocking by antivirus software, a firewall, or local policies.
-
-
Wait for the service to be processed and registered on the NDD Orbix portal
-
Access the NDD Orbix portal
-
Verify that the NDD - Printer Monitor USB service is now displayed for the computer where it was installed
-
After the service is registered, manually configure the USB printer search as instructed at Configure USB printer search for the service
-
Run the printer search through the portal
If the service remains unavailable:
-
Restart the NDD - DCA and Cloud Connector service
-
Wait for a new connection to the portal
If the problem persists, collect the logs from the DCA and Cloud Connector and verify whether any network blockages, antivirus software, firewalls, or local policies are interrupting the service.
Additional information:
-
The time required for the service to register may vary between installations.
-
It is not necessary to remain in the remote access session while waiting for the service to register, provided that the prerequisites have been verified.
-
The search for USB printers must be configured manually after the service is registered on the portal.
-
Always use the latest version of the DCA and Cloud Connector installer. Older versions may require an update before the service can be registered, which can increase the time it takes for the service to become available.
-
A delay in service registration should not be processed as a failure until the DCA and Cloud Connector, communication, and local prerequisites have been verified.
