The DCA and Cloud Connector is the essential monitoring agent for the NDD Orbix solution, playing a central role in collecting and sending data to the platform portal. This agent is a software that allows continuous communication between the monitored devices in the customers' environments and the NDD Orbix platform.
Its proper installation and configuration are essential to ensure the efficient, secure and centralized operation of all device monitoring.
The DCA and Cloud Connector serves the following purposes:
-
Accurate collection of device data, including meters, supply levels, odometers, events and equipment status.
-
Centralized management via NDD Orbix, which allows remote and unified administration of printers and computers, offering complete visibility of the customer's printing and IT environment.
-
Automation of operational tasks, including driver installation, print queue configuration, and application of saving policies.
-
Continuous agent updates (liveupdate), keeping the infrastructure always up to date with the latest performance improvements and fixes.
The agent allows remote monitoring and management of a wide range of devices and services:
-
Services available on Windows:
-
NDD - Printer Monitor: monitoring of network printers (meter readings, supplies, and events).
-
NDD - Printer Monitor USB: monitoring of USB printers (meter readings, supplies, and events).
-
NDD - Thermal Monitor: monitoring of network thermal printers (odometers, supplies, and events).
-
NDD - Thermal Monitor USB: USB thermal printer monitoring (odometers, supplies, and events).
-
NDD - Computer Monitor: computer monitoring.
-
NDD - Software Monitor: monitoring of installed software.
-
NDD - Print Queue: installation and monitoring of drivers and print queues.
-
NDD - Supply Watch: application of saving rules (EcoPrint).
-
NDD - Queues Monitor: monitoring of print jobs.
-
-
Services available on Linux:
-
NDD - Printer Monitor: monitoring of network printers (meters, supplies, and events).
-
NDD - Printer Monitor USB: monitoring of USB printers (meters, supplies, and events).
-
Warning
Linux supports only the network and USB printer monitoring services. The other features are available exclusively for Windows.
Each service can be enabled individually on the portal, according to the requirements and environment of each customer.
Communication between the agent and the portal can occur in three different ways, adjustable according to the infrastructure of each customer:
-
Direct communication: when there is no specific definition for the use of a proxy or gateway, communication occurs directly between the agent and the portal.
-
Use of proxy: this is a feature of the customer's infrastructure, responsible for mediating communication between devices and the internet.
-
Use of gateway: this is a feature of NDD (Gateway Connector), with the ability to mediate communication between agents and the NDD Orbix portal. In addition, the gateway stores data in cache for certain features of the solution.
The communication flow occurs as follows:
