What is the difference between units and permissions?

Unit and permission are two distinct control mechanisms within the platform, but they complement each other in managing access to and viewing of data:

  • Unit : defines which device data the user can view, based on rules (customers and device types).

  • Permission: defines which actions the user can perform, based on permissions (view, edit, generate reports, etc.).

💡

Example

A user belongs to the unit that contains Customer A’s Site X and has the View printers permission.

When accessing the Monitoring > Printers menu, they will view only the printers (permission) from Customer A’s Site X (unit).

In summary: the unit controls what is visible; the permission controls what can be done with what is visible.
